Gardens on the hills east of Metro Manila
Antipolo sits on the slopes of the Sierra Madre, and much of the city is a plateau averaging about 200 metres above sea level. It runs cooler than Metro Manila for that reason, and plenty of lots fall away from the road toward the back fence. On land like that, planting, paths and drainage all have to follow the grade.
The ground has its own name. Antipolo series soil, whose reference profile was dug in Dela Paz, is a reddish brown clay formed from basalt, with hard rock below it in places. Roots settle well in it, but digging for walls or big trees can hit stone. Our crews drive up from Quezon City on Marcos Highway and Sumulong Highway and work across the city.

Tree permits under DENR CALABARZON
Antipolo is the capital of Rizal, which falls under DENR CALABARZON. Permits to cut naturally grown trees on private land are issued at the DENR regional level, and the department keeps a CENRO office in Antipolo City. A certificate of no objection from your barangay captain is part of the application. Permits are not in our price, and we cut only after one is issued.
Ridge trees and typhoon season
The city is named after the tipolo, a native breadfruit tree that once grew here in abundance. On an open ridge, trees take more wind than they would in a sheltered valley, so crown thinning is best done before typhoon season. Big trees on a slope also need a plan for where cut limbs land. Trees over 10 m or near power lines need a paid site visit first.
